History and Plans for the Future Edward Street Flats and the St Vincent Area

Edward Street Flats are a complex of Early social housing located in the St Vincents Quarter area of Sheffield, England. There are 133 flats arranged in a "D" shaped complex of between 4 storey on Edward street and 3 storey on Solly street side. Built in the Inter-War period around a central court yard.

The flats are now have a mix of Council, Housing Association and private ownership. Some external refurbishment was carried out a few years ago to the roof, with modern play area to the court yard. This area and St Georges close was also classed as Netherthorpe till the recent re branding of the area as part of the St Vincents Quarter following the drawing up of an action plan in 2004 for the area to the East of Netherthorpe Rd (the inner ring Road) When the ring road was built it split the area.

Sheffield City Council are planning a design for improvements to the existing open space between Edward Street and Upper Allen Street. A Pdf of the plans is available on the website. The design shows areas for Basketball, greenspace by the Edward Street Flats, a cafe terrace, market space and public art and sitting walls
